Two fittings, and what each one is for.

The first takes the measurements. The second is the fitting, and by the end of it you forget you are wearing it.

Two appointments. The first takes the measurements, the second is the fitting. Each one is looking for something the other cannot see.

The first, the measurement

You stand still, and then you move. We are reading structure: shoulder slope, the drop from chest to waist, whether one blade sits forward of the other. Almost nobody is symmetrical, and this appointment exists to find out how you are not. Then you sit, you reach, you put your hands in your pockets and take them out again, because a jacket that fits a standing man and binds when he drives has not been fitted, it has been photographed. Fabric, lining, lapel and button are chosen in the same conversation.

A garment you have to think about is a garment that does not fit.

The second, the fitting

The garment now exists, and we are working in millimetres. Sleeve length against your shirt cuff. Where the button sits relative to your natural waist. The collar closing flat against the neck when you turn your head. The armhole, which is most of the argument.

If the measurement was taken properly, this one is quiet. You put it on, we mark two or three things, and you forget you are wearing it.

And where they happen
